Since the 2010 guidelines, the psychosocial and mental aspects of DMD have been recognised

Of patients living with DMD :

• 

  26% have learning disabilities

• 

  17–27% have intellectual disabilities

• 

  27% have anxiety

• 

  15% have an autistic spectrum disorder

• 

  32% have ADHD

This highlights the need to screen, assess and, where necessary, treat these conditions

The DMD MDT should include a mental health clinician (psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker or psychiatric nurse)
