  • In 2010, the US CDC selected an international coalition of 84 experienced clinicians from relevant therapy areas to develop DMD care recommendations

  • The resulting DMD Care Considerations Working Group presented their findings in two parts:

    • Part 1: Diagnosis, and neuromuscular, rehabilitation, endocrine and gastrointestinal and nutritional management Footnote 1

    • Part 2: Implementation of multidisciplinary care Footnote 1

  • 2014: Multidisciplinary steering committee established to update the 2010 DMD Care Considerations, to:

    • improve patient care in an era of prolonged survival

    • provide guidance on advances in assessments and interventions

    • consider the implications of emerging genetic and molecular therapies for DMD

  • The committee identified three new topics to be included in the update:

    • Primary care and emergency management

    • Endocrine management

    • of care across lifespan
